Ever been on a scavenger hunt? Well, that is precisely what these SL hunts are! Set up and sponsored by the many vendors, creators and sim owners in SL to promote and increase foot traffic through their stores or sims. The premise is very simple for the most part, you are provided with a link to the ‘starting point’ where you go to receive your first free item as well as a link to where the next item in the hunt may be found. You go along following these links and picking up treasures as you go; most hunt items are absolutely free of charge, while some will cost lindens ($L), the amount depends on the price set per the creator/store owner, and will be displayed when you attempt to obtain the item.
All hunts have a specific unifying theme, and the items you will be looking for will be relevant to that particular theme. The hunt info posters will tell you what to look for, and most have a sample of the item attached to them. Hunts have become a very popular way to advertise within SL, and more and more content creators and store owners are joining in on them.
There are several different kinds of hunts:
Grid-wide: Are hunts that will span throughout the many different participating/sponsoring sims within the SL grid.
Sim exclusive: These are found only within the particular sim sponsoring it.
Mall: A hunt sponsored by the different vendors within a mall.
Store: This is a hunt limited only to a specific sponsoring store.
There is always a hunt of some form or other going on in-world, and there is another trend which has become very popular in helping the average avi keep track and keep up-to-date with them, and that is your friendly neighborhood blog. Almost all hunts have a blog page which will offer anything from location links, to sponsor lists, hints and pictures of the items. I will always have information on as many hunts as I am aware of and/or following myself, and will provide links to, and pics of the items which can be found in any particular hunt. I have become a fairly experienced huntress (giggles) and I keep fastidious notes to help me better share with others the fruits of my hunting labors. I hope you will enjoy hunting as much as I have.
